Best sushi places in Baton Rouge

I never feel like I’m at home until I have my go-to sushi spot, an ice cream place I love, a donut spot, a home church, and a local bookstore.

Baton Rouge has a ton of sushi spots from small hole-in-the-walls to fancy date night options, and since moving to Baton Rouge a year ago, I’ve tried at least 11 places (and counting). Here are my top 4 sushi places in Baton Rouge!

The Baton Rouge Sushi List:

Sushi Yama

7731 Perkins Road #120, Baton Rouge, LA

Sushi Yama is a solid option for a casual dinner and reminds me most of my sushi place back home because they give you a little appetizer for free and fruit at the end. They also have some extra non-sushi options in case you’re dining with someone who doesn’t want to eat raw fish.

Ochi Sushi and Hibachi

454 Bluebonnet Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA

This is my go-to spot for sushi in Baton Rouge. It’s great for takeout and by far the most affordable option. It’s actually the second location of a place that started in Metairie a few years back. I’m so glad they’re in Baton Rouge now. Their sushi is always fresh, and the rolls are really inventive and THICK. You’re sure to get a full meal here.

Where should you get sushi in Baton Rouge? I never feel like I’m at home until I have my go to sushi place (among some other things), so since moving to Baton Rouge, I’ve tried at least 9. Here are my top 4 sushi places in Baton Rouge! Sushi Yama – is good and reminds me most of my sushi place back home because they give you a little appetizer for free and fruit at the end. Ochi Sushi – is great for takeout and by far the most affordable option. Their sushi is always fresh, and the rolls are really inventive and THICK. Umami – has the best vibe of the sushi places I’ve been to. They have a rotating menu of specials as well as staple rolls. Despite the elevated interior, it’s not that much more expensive than eating at any of the other places. Staff is super friendly here too! Rock-n-Sake – was super accommodating for my large group and they had a cool sashimi platter they served to me on a huge slab of wood. All the places I mentioned have fresh fish and something approaching an alaska roll which is important to me. Where else should I try? #batonrouge #sushi #localfood #sashimi #brtok

Umami Japanese Bistro

3930 Burbank Drive, Baton Rouge, LA

Umami is a Baton Rouge favorite, and it has the best vibe of the sushi places I’ve been to in the city. I’d even recommend it to people coming in from out of town! They have a rotating menu of specials as well as great staple rolls. Despite the elevated interior, it’s not that much more expensive than eating at any of the other sushi places. The staff is super friendly here too!

Rock-n-Sake

3043 Perkins Rd Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA

This bar/sushi restaurant in the Perkins Overpass was super accommodating for my large group. They had a cool sashimi platter they served to me on a huge slab of wood. Their fish was fresh, and the location is great, but parking on weekends is a bear, so be aware of that while making plans!

Did I miss a sushi place that I should’ve included? Let me know in the comments!
